The 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attacks have popped up new questions and surely one thing that is on everybody’s mind is that why doesn’t India attack, rather makes ‘surgical strikes’, at the terrorist camps operating from within Pakistan, mainly POK.
We just think over this, keeping the emotions and anguish away for a moment (so that these factors don’t affect our thinking process)......
Though it is weird to compare the US and India, but still the first thing that comes to our mind is that if US can attack Afghanistan post 9/11 and Iraq on the pretext of so called the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs), why can’t India reciprocate the same with Pakistan?
Because India is no America! Pakistan no Iraq! Even if we take, the comparisons of the military capabilities of the US and India, out of the picture, still it can’t be ruled out that Pakistan is a nuclear armed ‘rogue’ state which does not have doctrines like No First Use policy and it’s the military commander of Pakistan, not the head of the civilian government that has his fingers on the nuclear button.
Moreover, even more fundamental difference between the Iraq War and war in Afghanistan is the soil on which the war is being fought! Till date America has never fought any war on his own soil. Both the Iraq and Afghan War are being fought thousands of miles away from the American soil. Probably Americans are even more afraid than India when it comes to the possibility of war on their home turf and when there is even negligible possibility of loss of American life and property. Had it not been the case, why didn’t the US took any military action against the North Korea which in all possibility has a well established nuclear weapons’ programme and still the US has been trying for decades now to get North Korea on the diplomatic tables? Probably because the Policeman of the World, the US, is too scared of a tiny nation’s capabilities to strike targets within the US soil, causing loss of ‘so precious’ American lives and property. The same is the case with Cuba; else there is no reason perceivable, that the US can go all guns to pull down the Saddam Husain but not Fidel Castro?
The gist of matter is simply..... When it comes to fighting in its own backyard, endangering life and property of its own people, even the mighty US gets a cold.
